John Paul DeJoria, chairman and chief executive officer of John Paul Mitchell Systems, recently was inducted as a lifetime member by the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc. DeJoria was selected from hundreds of nominations. Association members mentor young people and sponsor more than $5 million in Horatio Alger need-based scholarships awarded to high-school seniors annually who have proven their ability to overcome childhood adversities and humble beginnings.
Walter Scott Jr., president of the Hortaio Alger Association, says, "John Paul DeJoria and all the members of the Horatio Alger Association Continue the tradition of proving that hard work, determination, and positive thinking are the keys to success and achieving the American dream."
Since 1947, 10 Americans have been selected each year for induction. Some of the 585 Americans to be inducted include: Secretary of State Colin Powell, the Rev. Billy Graham, boxing legend George Foreman and entertainer Carol Burnett.
