North Carolina A Step Away From Banning Young Tanners
Posted on: 08/05/2004

The North Carolina legislature passed a bill that limits tanners under 13 without a prescription and requires that salons strictly follow manufacturer schedules. As of press time, the bill awaited Gov. Michael F. Easley’s signature.

Sponsored by Sen. James Forrester, Senate Bill 657 passed the Senate by a 45-2 vote April 15. Slightly changed, the bill passed in the House of Representatives 87-12 on July 17; the Senate voted that day to concur with the changes. Gov. Easley has 30 days to sign or veto the bill; SB 657 will pass if no further action is taken.
